What a Seahawks trade for CB Xavien Howard could look like
By Geoff Shull
The Seahawks consistently abide by the mantra ‘always compete.’ The team is being built to go all-in for a Super Bowl run today. Making a splash trade for a top-tier player in their prime is certainly not out of question.
The team has upgraded its offensive line with the acquisition of RG Gabe Jackson. Seattle re-signed Benson Mayowa and Carlos Dunlap, while also adding Kerry Hyder, Aldon Smith, and Al Woods to the defensive line. By all accounts, they have addressed the two-position groupings that fans believed were the weakest links heading into the off-season.
However, in doing so, they had to pull funds from somewhere to cover these expenses. The linebackers and the cornerback groups took the biggest hits in terms of money invested. Fortunately for the linebackers, they have young and promising prospects in Jordyn Brooks and Darrell Taylor to play alongside Bobby Wagner.
The Cornerback situation, many fans feel needs to still be addressed. Seattle added Ahkello Witherspoon, Damarious Randall, and Pierre Desir. Incumbent starter DJ Reed is also returning. yet, the team is without a solidified number one. What if I were to tell you that one of the best cornerbacks in the game may be available?
The Seahawks could trade for star cornerback Xavien Howard
Some fans won’t be happy expelling even more resources for an expensive veteran. They aren’t wrong. Acquiring Howard would not be cheap. The Dolphins still have club control on Howard for several more seasons, and he is coming off an incredibly productive year.
The perfect type of player Seattle could use. A true number one cornerback who brings the swagger, leadership, and ability to consistently lock down the opposing team’s number one wide receiver.
It’s a move that fully displays that the team knows their Super Bowl window is closing. So, who is Xavien Howard?
