The Colts may be without Carson Wentz in week one of the 2021 regular season. But the Seahawks still can’t assume the game just got easier. First of all, Wentz has never beaten Russell Wilson and the Seahawks so even if he played there should be no fear among 12s.

Yes, whoever the quarterback is for the Colts in week one is going to be better protected than Wentz ever was in Philadelphia, even with a good Seahawks pass rush. But Wentz is inconsistent with arm angles even when he has time to throw. But now Wentz might need even play after suffering another injury.

In practice last week, Wentz injured his foot and is out “indefinitely.” We have very little information other than Wentz hurt his foot. Wentz is seeing a specialist about the issue but we might not know the severity for a bit. He is out indefinitely, whatever that means.

Colts might not have Carson Wentz against the Seahawks

Based on Wentz’s injury history, it means he is probably out for some time. If so, he will miss week one of the 2021 season and that is when the Colts play the Seahawks. But the game doesn’t really get easier for Seattle with Wentz out.

At this point, assuming the Colts don’t sign a veteran quarterback to replace Wentz in the short term, Indy would start Jacob Eason. 12s living in the Seattle area will know Eason well. He played high school at Lake Stevens and came back to play his final year of college at the University of Washington after starting college at Georgia.

Eason has a big arm and will likely do well under the Frank Reich system. In fact, there is a possibility if Eason plays as Reich directs him to then he could run the Colts offense just as well and with just as strong of arm. Seattle has let lesser backup quarterbacks beat them in the last few years than Eason.

Plus, the Colts offensive line is really good and Indianapolis can bring pressure on defense. They did lose some key pieces from 2020 but certainly have lots of speed with players like linebacker Darius Leonard. My point in all this is that even if Carson Wentz can’t play in week one, the Seahawks are going to have a very tough game on the road. Heck, maybe they end up being just as good with Eason anyway.
