Alton Robinson

I have written fairly recently about Alton Robinson because I think he is going to be a very productive player in the NFL. When the Seahawks took Robinson in the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL draft, it wasn’t clear whether Robinson was a linebacker or a defensive end. Plus, his college sack totals weren’t massive so even if he was an edge rusher no one could be sure how good of one he was.

But in limited snaps last year, Robinson produced some decent numbers for as many reps as he got. Robinson also had timely sacks against the Cowboys and Redskins where if he had not shown up when he did Seattle could have lost the game. Robinson deserved more playing time, I believe, and didn’t get it.

But with a year of learning and even with a crowded defensive end room, Robinson needs to be given a chance to play more this year and then maybe even be a starter in 2022. Plus, Robinson will have learned from veteran Carlos Dunlap who Robinson resembles as far as size.

Robinson played 29 percent of the Seahawks defensive snaps last year. If that were to improve to even just 60 percent of the snaps in 2021, Robinson would get 8 sacks and 10 tackles-for-loss if his production stays at the same ratio. I think if Seattle gives Robinson a chance, he can get close to 10 sacks and many of them will be important.
