Marquise Blair has shown promise in his first two seasons with the Seahawks. He is versatile but appears to have no actual spot to play. Versatility is great. But if other players are specifically better at their positions than Blair, Blair becomes a rotational player without a bunch of important reps.

This isn’t good as Blair was a second-round draft pick. It isn’t that he is a bust; he isn’t. Blair is capable of playing either safety spot or slot nickel. But he might now be capable of being better than Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams or even Ugo Amadi.

Blair was going to start at nickelback in 2020 and was doing OK in very early action but then got injured and had to miss the rest of the season. Amadi took his place and was pretty good and this left Blair without a spot heading into 2021.

Marquise Blair could more valuable to the Seahawks in the future

Blair will be good no matter where he plays. This isn’t a guess as it is based on the limited reps that Blair has gotten wherever he has played. At safety? 11 tackles and a forced fumble in his week 8 start at strong safety in 2019 is proof. Moving to slot in 2020, Blair started week one and had 7 tackles and another forced fumble. Then he got hurt in week two.

Here’s what should be the best option for Blair in the future. He will get a lot of reps on the field this year filling in wherever and will be productive at any position. But Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams are both currently free agents after this year. I say let Diggs walk and have Blair take over.

dark. Next. Second-year Seahawks who could have huge impact in 2021

Having Blair and Adams at safety (assuming Adams gets extended, which he should) means two guys who hit hard and play LOB-style football. Also, both are young and could form the safety duo for the Seahawks for several more years. This is a great thing for the future. It might just mean that in 2021, Marquise Blair has no place to start.
