Standout player #4: Darrell Taylor, LEO/SAM

The first thing you will notice is that Taylor has two positions listed next to his name. The new defensive scheme is more or less a 3-4 appearance with a 4-3 principal base (yeah, I know). This new scheme has the lines between LEO (pass-rushing defensive end) and SAM (outside linebacker) to the point that they are almost one and the same.

This is the formation that saw the Seahawks play like a top 10 unit in the second half of last season. It allows a lot of creative blitzes and ways to attack the offense to transpire. This makes the LEO/SAM spot all the more important. This player has to be able to rush the passer and play in coverage.

Darrell Taylor’s comeback is more important than ever. However, fear not. Taylor has risen to the occasion, and then some. He has been the talk of the camp. The word that virtually every coach and player has used to describe him is ‘electric.’ He is flying out of the 3-point stance and making plays left and right. He is dropping into coverage like he is a 5-year vet.

Next. Seahawks need to trade for Xavien Howard or Stephon Gilmore. dark

The way he is being talked about, anything less than seven sacks this year would be a disappointment. Seriously, his play has been that strong. Lookout for Taylor to make some serious waves in a stacked defensive line group this season. Big ‘ol number #52 is about to make a name for himself.
