Strength of Seahawks roster #3: Defensive end

How the tides have turned. Just a year ago, the position was easily the worst on the roster with more holes than swiss cheese.

Through the draft, bargain shopping, and savvy trades the team is now sitting pretty with more quality talent than they reasonably know to do with.

Carlos Dunlap is the steadying presence along the defensive line. A player well accustomed to stepping up in the biggest of moments. Benson Mayowa ended the year red-hot with four sacks, five tackles for a loss, and fifteen pressures over the final 6 games.

Behind them is Alton Robinson who was arguably the second-best rookie pass rusher from the 2020 draft class. Darrell Taylor getting raved about left and right in practice by coaches and players and expects to have a huge role.

Kerry Hyder is coming off an 8+ sack season with the 49ers. Aldon Smith is in his best shape since his years with the 49ers. Both figure to play a big role for the Seahawks this year.

LJ Collier coming off a quietly productive season. Before I hear any Collier slander, he is the glue guy. Collier does all the small things that make those around him better. He gets lots of hate because of his draft pedigree. He didn’t select himself in the first round. Many analysts didn’t have a first round grade on him. He can’t help that. Just appreciate what he does well. He is a dog and makes those around him better. That is huge.

All in all, the team has a ridiculous amount of talent on the roster. It’ll be very interesting to see how they spread out the minutes to make sure everyone eats.
