Seahawks injuries: Who is in or out in preseason game 2
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks play the Broncos on Saturday and there is a chance that some of Seattle’s starters play a little bit. Pete Carroll wouldn’t commit to how many, if any, of the starters will play live snaps on the field and definitely would not say how long any of the starters might play.
While it would be nice to see Russell Wilson and company take a few reps and see what they look like under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron compared to the woeful outing the second team offense had in preseason game one, keeping everyone healthy is a lot more important.
Several Seahawks have already been announced as out for preseason game 2 but there is one returning player who hopefully will show he is fast and back to being healthy.
Here is who’s definitely in and definitely out for the Seahawks vs. Broncos
Who’s in
Rashaad Penny
Rashaad Penny is going to play! Yay! Now let’s just hope he doesn’t get hurt again. Penny is an odd one because he has shown explosiveness at times but he also seems to have the physical stamina of an eggshell. It would be more surprising to see Penny play the majority of a season than watch him play in four games this year. But hopefully versus the Broncos he will prove he is nearly 100 percent back from a knee injury in 2019.
Jamarco Jones
Jones missed preseason game one but Carroll said Jones is “in position to play” this week. This likely means we see how Jones does at left tackle because Duane Brown is still holding-in and will not play. Stone Forsythe was extremely inconsistent versus the Raiders so let’s hope Jones plays and plays pretty well.
Who’s out
Penny Hart
Hart has had a good training camp but missed the Raiders game while Freddie Swain looked pretty decent. An ankle sprain has kept Hart out of practice but if he isn’t able to come back soon the ankle sprain could keep him from an active roster spot in 2021.
Ethan Pocic
Kyle Fuller will start in place of Pocic who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Center is a growing concern for Seattle. Pocic simply gets hurt too much to be a reliable center for Seattle and the Seahawks need to sign someone like Austin Reiter to fix what could be a huge issue along the offensive line.
D’Wayne Eskridge
Seattle’s second round draft pick from this year has missed time with an injured toe. He didn’t play in preseason game one and won’t play against the Broncos. The good thing is Eskridge did practice this week and might be able to go next week in Seattle’s final preseason game.
Who’s maybe – Geno Smith and Robert Nkemdiche
Nkemdiche is an interesting guy because of his potential – a potential he has never reached in the NFL. But if he is motivated to do well he could supply an interior pass rush. But he first has to make it onto the field and while he practiced this week he might not play versus the Broncos.
Smith, the sure backup to Russell Wilson, suffered a concussion last week versus the Raiders. He practiced this week but Seattle might simply keep him out to not risk him to further injury.
