Alex McGough

I get that Russell Wilson, who hasn’t missed a game ever since he was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft by Seattle, is going to start and if something terrible occurs and he gets injured then Geno Smith will enter the game and likely be OK. But if Wilson does get hurt then Seattle needs to have a backup to Smith.

Neither Alex McGough nor Sean Mannion, both of whom played against the Broncos, look to be worthy of backing up Smith. But McGough was atrocious. The weird thing is that McGough shows a lot of athleticism at quarterback but there is no way he can be trusted with leading an offense.

A big reason this game got away from the Seahawks early was because of McGough. He threw an opening drive interception which was just a bad decision and a poor throw and he made this pass deep in Seattle territory. McGough did manage to get Seattle into Broncos territory twice but ran into a sack and fumbled to end one drive and then made another errant throw that resulted in an interception.

McGough shows enough athletic ability to potentially be a backup quarterback in the NFL but this seems years away and I can’t imagine any coach risking a game to McGough at quarterback of their respective team.
