Rashaad Penny

The Seahawks had only backups in at the start of the game and the Broncos played their starters fairly deep into the game so there was a mismatch with blocking. Still, Penny looked worse than Alex Collins with the same blocking. Penny didn’t look strong or show any quickness when approaching the line.

Penny did make an early catch that was promising but this was basically the highlight of his night. He finished the night with 14 total yards on 6 touches. For a running back that is expected to back up Chris Carson in 2021, Penny has not proven he is ready to rotate in with Carson and be productive.

Collins didn’t do a lot more but still ended up with 37 yards on 9 touches. Collins also made a shifty move to elude a would-be tackler on a check-down pass that Collins turned into a first down. Penny did not seem capable of this.

From what we’ve seen from Penny since he entered the NFL, he looks to be not much else other than a straight-ahead runner. This is going to work very well consistently unless a team has the kind of blocking as the Broncos had in the late-1990s. In other words, Penny needs to be better.
