The Seahawks looked much better in preseason game three and defeated the Chargers easily. While preseason games do not count it surely helped 12s psychology to not watch their favorite team get smashed once again in a glorified scrimmage. Losing is one thing but losing badly is another issue.

On Saturday versus the Chargers, Seattle did the smashing. The tone was set by a sack/forced fumble by linebacker Cody Barton and then safety Marquise Blair snatched the ball out of the air and ran the ball in for a touchdown. Barton and Blair could be keys to the Seattle defense in a couple of years.

Many players stood out for the Seahawks against the Chargers but there were three that could have sealed their roster spots, whether that means making the team at all or earning their place in the rotation of their respective position group.

Three Seahawks that may have cemented their place on the 2021 roster

I do want to mention a couple of honorable mentions here. Quarterback Sean Mannion and linebacker John Rhattigan need to make the practice squad. Seattle is only going to keep two quarterbacks on the active roster and there are too many good linebackers for Rhattigan to make the team. But both players need to be kept in the organization and played really well Saturday.

John Curhan

Curhan went undrafted out of Cal and a big reason was that he had medical tests just before the 2021 draft that revealed a heart issue. Curhan was projected as a 6th or 7th rounder on some boards. But the 6’6″ and 320-pound offensive lineman has been fantastic this preseason.

In preseason game two, Curhan had the highest offensive grade of all Seahawks, per Pro Football Focus. Against the Chargers, Curhan started at right tackle and you didn’t hear his name (that is a good thing for an offensive lineman) and then flipped to left tackle and did well. His versatility is something Pete Carroll loves and Curhan deserves a place on the 2021 roster.
