Penny Hart

Penny Hart is going to make the Seahawks for the 2021 season. If he were to be cut and then signed to the practice squad it wouldn’t be a huge shock but simply a mild surprise. Hart is a good special teamer and great in the locker room so he will be on the team. But Hart shouldn’t get a lot of targets at receiver.

Versus the Chargers, Hart caught one of his three targets. One target was a throw down the sideline that Geno Smith overthrew. But while not catching the pass wasn’t Hart’s fault as he isn’t D.K. Metcalf, it pointed out that Hart just has trouble getting separation from defensive backs.

Keeping Hart on the team likely means not keeping Cade Johnson or possibly Aaron Fuller. Johnson and Fuller have been decent punt returners in college and could probably be OK in the NFL as well. So while Hart is good on special teams, Johnson and Fuller would be too.

Johnson and Fuller also appear to be just as good of receivers as Hart. Hart also hasn’t proven in his NFL career that he would be an overly productive player so keeping him on the team, no matter how great he is in the locker risk, is a risk. Johnson and Fuller would be risks too but there is a possibility they could be more productive than Hart.
