Three unsung Seahawks that will help the most in 2021
By Lee Vowell
Damien Lewis
12s already know hood Damien Lewis is and we can assume he is only going to get better. But the greater group of NFL fans? They may not have heard of Lewis. They will. Even in meaningless preseason football this year one could see how much of an impact Lewis makes at left guard. While Seattle struggled in the first two preseason games in the third they looked much better early in the game. One of the reasons for this is that Lewis played.
In fact, Lewis was still one of the few starters to play and his presence alone helped. And maybe Lewis was going against backups against the Broncos and dominated. He should. Because in 2020, in Lewis’s rookie season, Lewis graded out as the 13th-best guard overall, per Pro Football Focus. He’s great against anyone, not just backups.
Now, Lewis is moving to the left side and will play next to Duane Brown (assuming Brown plays in week one and ends his hold-in). This means the left side of the Seattle offensive line should be beastly. If Brown plays at his normal level and Lewis improves even a little, the left side of the Seattle line could be among the best in the league.
And even if, worst-case scenario, Brown doesn’t start week one, whoever plays next to Lewis would be better having Lewis next to them. Damien Lewis could easily be a Pro Bowler for several seasons starting in 2021.
