Jordyn Brooks

I think Jordyn Brooks is going to be really good for the Seahawks. But he also might feel the pressure of basically replacing K.J. Wright. I get that, in theory, Seattle plays a 4-3-4 defense but on the majority of downs this turns into a 4-2-5 because the slot corner is on the field more than the third linebacker. This means Brooks will be on the field a lot.

Brooks is more of a Bobby Wagner-type linebacker than Wright because Brooks is made for sniffing out running backs and roaming from sideline to sideline than covering tight ends and going north to south. This doesn’t mean Brooks can’t do it, it just means it’s not his M.O.

I expect Brooks will be in a lot of tackles and play well. But there could be a few plays that Wright might make – like breaking up a screen pass – that Brooks isn’t as good at currently. Against a good Colts team, a few plays might make the difference between a Seattle win and loss.

Jordyn Brooks is the future at linebacker for the Seahawks and that is a good future. But week one of 2021 he has a lot of pressure on him. How he responds to that could change the outcome of the game.
