3 free agent cornerbacks Seahawks should still sign for 2021
By Lee Vowell
Richard Sherman
I am going to keep writing about Sherman until he either signs with the Seahawks or signs with another team. Yes, Sherman had an off-the-field issue this offseason and likely needs time to deal with whatever was going on. There are things more important than football. But Sherman is also a football player and a very good one.
If Sherman wants to play football in 2021 then it should be in a Seahawks uniform. Seattle knows what they will get with Sherman, just at a likely slightly reduced ability because of age. Even though Sherman is 33 years old he has never been a corner that relied on speed. He uses his size to be physical at the line of scrimmage and then shield passes from receivers.
Sherman is also smart and can anticipate what quarterbacks want to do. His intelligence is a huge reason Sherman was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL for most of his career. Lots of players have great physical ability but the great ones overall can outthink their opponent too. Sherman has always done this.
Richard Sherman would instantly be the best corner on the roster and make the other corners better too by his presence on the field. Does he have some stuff to work through personally most likely? Yes. But this is about Sherman the player and Sherman the player would make the Seahawks a better team.
