The Seattle Seahawks open up the 2021 season with vengeance on their mind. They embark on another east coast journey for their season opener as they prep to take on the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams are coming off Wild Card round losses. The main difference being, many expected Seattle to win while most thought Indy would lose.
Regardless, both teams addressed their issues in the offseason and have their sights set on a better 2021 season. The Colts made headlines early on after acquiring QB Carson Wentz. Coach Reich and Wentz are once again reunited and Colts fans are hoping that Reich has the formula to get Wentz back to playing like an MVP.
Perhaps the biggest reason many eyes will be on this one is because of Seahawks QB, Russell Wilson. His comments in the offseason created shockwaves throughout the league and will continue to linger as a featured story this season. But – more importantly – within the Seattle Seahawks organization, they are focused on making another Super Bowl run.

Last year, Seattle opened up in Atlanta and unloaded their offensive arsenal, winning 38-25. They were surprisingly aggressive in this game, going for it on 4th down early in the second half. It paid off as Wilson hit Metcalf on a streak route for a touchdown. But, this season opener presents a difficult challenge as the Colts have one of the better defenses in the NFL.
Nonetheless, I expect a similar outcome in this one. The hire of Shane Waldron will add concepts to this offense that 12s haven’t seen before. Russell Wilson and his “unapologetic” mindset will be on display in Week 1. Expect a lot of jet sweeps and play actions, leading to big shots down the field.
KEY TO THE GAME: Defense
But, the offense will not be the storyline after this one is over. The injuries to the Colts offensive line should allow this Seattle defensive front to cause pressure. More importantly, this will mask the struggles in Seattle’s secondary.
