Rasheem Green

I was kind of surprised by what some 12s were saying about Green this preseason when Green was one of the very few bright spots in a very dismal first two games for Seattle. Green showed speed and tenacity and knowledge for how to get to the opposing quarterback. I saw one tweet that they assumed Green wouldn’t make the active 53-man roster.

First of all, Green has had a decent career. While Seattle’s pass rush was really bad in 2019, Green at least led the team in sacks with 4. The Seahawks do have a glut of edge rushers on the roster but most are older than Green so Green might finally reach his peak this year and get more reps than expected.

Green came into the league young and is still only 24 years old entering his fourth season. He might be a much more productive player for the next 6 years starting in 2021. Pete Carroll liked what Green could do in college and saw his potential as a defensive lineman who could play at end and tackle and this is why, even with a somewhat muddled college career at USC, that Seattle took Green in the third round.

This might be the year that Green proves what a steal he was. Green’s talent might be second round and he just needs more reps and to stay healthy to prove it. Teams are not going to focus on Green, they will focus more on Carlos Dunlap and Jamal Adams. But I think by year’s end, Green has at least 8 sacks and cements his place on the Seattle roster for years to come.
