Seahawks will contain the Titans big-play artists, too

I think that’s enough of the Zona perspective, as helpful as it is. Let’s not only take it Mr. Hurd’s word for the Seahawks impending success, though. After all, the guy wears cardinal, black, and yellow. Let’s hear the Titans side of the story from Kristen Wong of TitanSized. Let’s rip off the bandaid, as she so aptly stated.

Ms. Wong correctly called out the ineptitude of the Titans offensive line as well. In particular, she noted that left tackle Taylor Lewan – who gave up those Chandler Jones sacks and hits – was less than good. The Seahawks defensive line should feast on the Titans in this game. Like, spread out the picnic blanket and pass the chicken feast.

She also noted that Tennessee’s two top receivers, A.J. Brown and Jones, caught only half their targets. As I noted above, I like the Hawks matchups here. I’m not about to say I’m not concerned about Jones or Brown, but Seattle’s secondary is better than Arizona’s. Pressure on Tannehill – picnic time, remember – will go a long way to solidifying that coverage.

Based on the assessments from Mr. Hurd and Ms. Wong, the Seahawks should be in good shape for their home opener. So what can the Seahawks learn from this game? It’s no secret that shutting down – or at least containing – Derrick Henry will go a long way to winning the game. Oddly, neither writer mentioned Henry’s poor performance. I’m not calling them out; I think it’s likely that it was simply so mind-boggling that their brains erased it.

Next. Three reasons for hope vs the Titans. dark

Does Seattle have the personnel to do this? Seems I remember hearing that Bobby Wagner plays the run pretty well. The Seahawks held the explosive Jonathan Taylor to just 56 yards rushing last week. Seattle’s defense ranked fifth in the league versus the run last year in both yards and yards per carry, and looks to be even better this season. The pesky little redbirds provided Seattle with a nice game plan to beat Tennessee, and I expect the good guys to improve upon it this weekend.
