It is time for the Seahawks to move Jamal Adams to linebacker

The Seahawks defense looks to be in shambles. Some sort of change needs to happen before the team gets into a rut they simply cannot get out of.

There are so many issues with the Seahawks defense it’s hard to know exactly where to start. Is it the coaching? The team loses the game of adjustments seemingly every week.

Is it the coverage? Somehow the receivers are open on just about every play. Is it the pass rush? The blitzes are not disguised and while the pass rush gets through the line, they fail to capitalize time and time again.

I believe the answer lies somewhere in the middle of it all. The biggest mystery to me is how the team has failed to utilize their very expensive defensive ‘weapon’, Jamal Adams. They traded a haul of picks and made him the highest-paid safety by nearly 15%. Yet, somehow, the Seahawks are not putting him in a position to be an asset.

Seahawks need to move Jamal Adams to linebacker

Simply put, it’s time for a change. Anything. At least show the fans that the team is trying to make some improvements. Show they are willing to move their pieces around. The best place to start would be moving Jamal Adams from the strong safety to the strongside linebacker.

Jamal Adams wanted to be paid like a linebacker for a reason. His game is very reminiscent of a linebacker. This move would help Seattle disguise their coverages. It would get another player with softer hands on the field. Most of all, it would get a strong vocal leader in the middle of the field helping direct the heard.

This defense simply needs someone to step up. They need a leader to get everyone on the same page. Pete Carroll has benched Jordyn Brooks two times in three weeks. Cody Barton is and has always been slow to read the play. They need a quick decision-maker who simply understands the game and can get everyone else on the same page.

We saw KJ Wright move to SLB and have one of the best years of his illustrious career. He was the only player in the NFL with 10 passes defended and 10 tackles for a loss last season. What’s to say Adams couldn’t do the same thing? Shoot, Adams pass rush upside could have 10 sacks, 10 passes defended, and 10 tackles for a loss upside.

Seattle has some depth at safety. Ryan Neal played admirably for Adams last year when he went down with an injury. This defense has failed to create turnovers.

Neal had 3 tackles for a loss, 3 passes defended and an interception starting for Adams last year in just four games. This team desperately needs someone to create turnovers. Why not give him a shot? Or, finally, let Marquise Blair have a go. They spent a second round pick on the hard-hitting player. Let him loose.

See if Tre Boston, Bradley McDougald, DJ Swearinger, George Iloka, or Kenny Vaccaro have any tread left on their tires. They are all available as free agents.

Shoot, if all else fails, move Tre Flowers (yeah, I know) back to his college position as a safety. He was graded as one of the top-run defending cornerbacks last year for a reason. He doesn’t shy away from contact. He just isn’t agile enough to stick with wide receivers. He could be a decent safety.

Next. 3 takeaways from Seahawks week 3 loss to the Vikings. dark

Look all I am getting at is this defense needs some sort of shake-up. What currently is happening isn’t working. Jamal Adams is a self-described weapon without a position. Why not try out a different spot that clearly needs help. Anything has to be better than what’s currently happening.
