A desperate Seattle Seahawks team looks to bounce against divisional rival, San Francisco 49ers, in Week 4. After blowing double-digit leads in back-to-back games, Seattle has another tall task ahead of them on Sunday. The 49ers themselves are looking to bounce back after losing at the buzzer to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

Many 12s have pushed the panic button after the Week 3 defeat in Minnesota. The defense’s inability to get off the field coupled with the inconsistent second half offense has fans worried that the Seahawks will not be able to keep up in the daunting NFC West. The good news is that this theory will be put to the test this Sunday.

The bad news is that if Seattle does indeed lose three straight, they will be digging themselves a very deep grave too early in the season. There isn’t much good to take away from the Week 3 performance against the Vikings. But, if there is one thing Seattle can learn from it — they need to play with the desperation that the Vikings did.

I said it last week and I will say it again, the most dangerous man is a desperate man. In sports, the most dangerous team is a desperate team. Seattle truly can’t afford to lose their first divisional game and fall to 1-3 in overall record. This game means way more from them than it does for San Francisco and it is critically important that Seattle plays with that sense of urgency this weekend.

Seahawks vs 49ers Prediction Week 4

The Seattle Seahawks have never lost three straight games with Russell Wilson as their quarterback. In fact, Wilson has the best winning percentage in the entire NFL since the 1970 merger when coming off a loss. On the same token, the San Francisco 49ers have never lost back-to-back games with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback.

Unfortunately for Seattle, they’ve experienced a lot of firsts early on in 2021. Pete Carroll lost his first home opener as Seahawks head coach in Week 2. Russell Wilson lost his first-ever game to the Vikings in Week 3. Needless to say, Seattle is trying to avoid another first this Sunday.

KEY TO THE GAME: Stopping the run game

Coming into the season, Seattle’s strength on defense was their interior linemen’s ability to stop the run. But, over the last two weeks, Seattle has gotten ran all over. So much so, that they have the third-worst rushing defense in the entire NFL. Granted, in Week 2 they faced Derrick Henry — who is the back-to-back rushing leader champion and recipient of many Angry Runs awards. Nevertheless, Seattle’s rushing defense must show up against a power-run schemed offense in San Francisco.

In Week 3, Alexander Mattison rushed for 112 yards, ranking second in the NFL. The gaping holes created by Minnesota’s offensive line allowed Mattison to have many explosive runs. His dominant performance enhanced the play-action game of Minnesota, making life for Seattle’s defenders a living hell. Luckily, San Francisco is pretty banged up at the running back spot. Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t have a big rushing day.

With all that said, I am putting my marbles on Seattle. This may be partly due to my pride getting in the way, but with the cards stacked against us, I just can’t imagine the Seahawks dropping three duds in a row. I don’t think the defense plays great, but I think they are finally able to generate a turnover and help Seattle scrap by with a victory on the road.

Next. Jamal Adams to make a change on Seahawks defense. dark

The Seattle Seahawks get their first divisional win of the season, beating the 49ers 24-23.
