The Seahawks defeated the 49ers 28-21 in week four that was not indicative of the score, either as a 49ers fan or a Seattle fan.

The Seahawks started week four looking completely awful and appeared to be a 5 win team in 2021, at best. Don’t believe me? Go back and read our now-stupid tweets from the first quarter. At one point, San Francisco had 150 total yards and Seattle had -3.

But for a team that could not make in-game adjustments or halftime adjustments prior to week four and who has had very little second half offense this year, Seattle was mostly brilliant on the second half against San Francisco. In the first quarter, the 49ers were putting extreme pressure on Russell Wilson and had 3 sacks early. As it turned out, San Francisco finished with just those 3 sacks.

Yes, the 49ers had more total yards in the second half but one of these was a blown-coverage 75-yard touchdown pass from Trey Lance to Deebo Samuel. Lots of other yards were on the last, fairly meaningless, last drive of the game for San Francisco. This was Seattle owning a second half for the first time this year.

There was something hopeful about the way the game ended. A team that looked worse than any other in the Pete Carroll era based on the last two games and the first quarter of week four suddenly changed things. Seattle’s blocking was better, the Seahawks secondary covered better, food tasted better wherever a 12 was and the skies cleared.

Maybe some of it had to do with all the 49ers injuries but San Francisco started with most of the same players and they were dominating Seattle early. Then offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and defensive coordinator Ken Norton, Jr. did something I wasn’t sure they could do and that was make the adjustments that needed to be made. They did and Seattle ended up taking a relatively comfortable 28-13 lead.

Next. Ken Norton still needs to go. dark

2-2 feels a lot better than 1-3. The way the game started it seemed like Seattle might be 1-7. But now they are right back in the thick of things. There is a short week this week with the Rams traveling to Seattle for Thursday night football. A win then and the Seahawks will be 3-2, the same as the Rams. This is going to be a crazy year.
