The Seahawks overcame a rough start to pull out a much-needed win over the 49ers Sunday. No one had a tougher start in this contest or played a bigger role in the eventual win than my MVP, Russell Wilson.

Ah yes, the Seahawks looked like they were cooked early in this game. More like the Seachickens, a scurrilous appellation you may have seen bandied about on social media. That’s quite alright, as the Hawks regained their full osprey form and feasted on the hapless Niners at the end. Okay, maybe “feasted” is pushing the metaphor a bit. But they did win, and no one was more responsible for this critical win than Mr. Unlimited himself, Russell Wilson.

Now hear me out, 12s. I’m sure you’re wondering exactly what I’ve been drinking/smoking/imbibing.and/or ingesting. After all, DangeRuss3 threw for four scores in game one, and he didn’t get my MVP. He threw for 343 and two TDs in the Titans loss, but the Seahawks put up 30 points.

He wasn’t great against the Vikings, but he still hit over 70 percent of his passes and didn’t turn the ball over. So how does he get an MVP for a game that saw him throw for a paltry 149 yards, and take three sacks? Ah, I’m so glad you asked.

Seahawks week 4 MVP: Russell Wilson

Yes, 12s, Russell Wilson was held to 149 yards passing, and he was sacked three times. The bad news is, he was sacked three times on the Seahawks first 12 offensive plays. He even fumbled on the first hit. However, he did recover the ball himself. Good thing, as that would have given the Niners the ball at the Hawks 32.  The good news? He wasn’t sacked for the rest of the game. Oh, and the fact that he recovered his own fumble. Russell Wilson is magic, people.

More good news? Wilson made those 149 yards count. He threw two touchdowns, or for the mathy 12s out there, one score for every 74.5 yards. That’s efficient, considering his career average is 126.8 yards per touchdown. Wilson also ran the ball in for another score. On a day when the running game wasn’t exactly purring – Alex Collins notwithstanding – 26 yards on four carries and a TD was huge in this game.

That run was special, yes. But the pay of the game has to be Wilson’s escape act that literally came within one minute of his 16-yard run. Wilson was trapped – and I mean all but wrapped up for shipping – by Niners cornerback Dontae Johnson. It was a straight corner blitz, Johnson was untouched, and yet Russell Wilson pulled off one of his greatest escapes ever. Here’s the link, 12s. Go watch it about a dozen times. I’ll wait.

Next. Seahawks week 4 win gives us all hope. dark

I know you already saw it live, and you’ve probably watched it again about a dozen times. But when a play is that good, you need to see it again. You can’t deny yourself the good things in life, 12s. And no one can deny that Russell Wilson was the MVP of this big Seahawk win over the 49ers.
