Stephon Gilmore is a former Defensive Player of the Year with two recent All-Pros to his name

Defensive So, many will ask, who is Stephon Gilmore? The answer is simple, he is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

Gilmore is coming off three straight Pro Bowls including two All-Pro nods. In those three years, Gilmore has amassed 135 tackles, 43 passes defended, 9 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 defensive touchdowns. He was also the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year.

He has been on an absolute tear the last several years. This has a lot to do with why Gilmore is on the outs with the Patriots. He understands his worth and wants to be paid like such.

The Patriots were hesitant to extend the 31-year-old cornerback into the twilights of his illustrious career. They have other talents behind him, such as JC Jackson, that make Gilmore a luxury.

Because of this, the Patriots have tried to trade Gilmore for the last half a year. No takers have surfaced. This is mainly due to the asking price the Patriots placed on him (initially a first-round pick that later turned into a second-round pick) as well as the need to extend the 31-year-old.

It looks like the NFL successfully called Bill Belichicks bluff. Gilmore was just released by the Patriots. The Seahawks need to pounce on the former All-Pro cornerback to shore up their weakest position.
