Seahawks vs Steelers: Our staff predicts a close game week 6
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks and Steelers play on Sunday Night Football in week 6 and both teams are 2-3 and need a win to help keep their season alive. Both teams are also dealing with injuries to key players, though the Seahawks might be in worse shape than Pittsburgh.
The Steelers have struggled on offense this season averaging just 19 points a game. But as 12s know, Seattle’s defense is so bad that it may offer a cure to Pittsburgh’s ailing offense. In fact, while we have been complaining about how Seattle should fire defensive coordinator Ken Norton, Jr., if the Steelers are able to get 450 total yards or more and 30 points in week 6 this really should seal Norton, Jr.’s fate.
So far in 2021, Pittsburgh has not gotten more than 391 total yards in any game and that was in week 5 and that number was 50 more yards than in any other game the Steelers have played. Pittsburgh has only scored more than 20 points in a game twice this year and the most they have scored is 27 in week 5.
Then there is the Seattle defense. Since week one when the Seahawks played the Colts (who only have one win this season), Seattle has allowed 453 total yards every game and given up 30 or more points twice.
Seahawks vs Steelers week 6: Staff predictions
But in week 6 Seattle will enter a game without quarterback Russell Wilson for the first time in 10 seasons. Wilson is out for several weeks with a finger injury. And running back Chris Carson won’t be able to play either as he has a neck injury. This means Geno Smith, who looked really good in week 5’s fourth quarter after taking over for Wilson, will be the quarterback and Alex Collins the likely starting running back. Basically, what the Seattle offense will do this week is anyone’s guess.
But who does have a guess as far as the final score goes? We do. Here is what our staff thinks will happen on Sunday. (Also, oddly enough, each member of the staff doesn’t know what the others are choosing so seeing so many predict the same score is weird.)
