The Seahawks best pass rusher this season has been Darrell Taylor. Taylor was injured in week 6 and while it looked bad Taylor might just be fine. Watching Taylor being carted off the field while his head was immobilized should have made one feel bad more about Taylor the human than the player. But throughout this week it seemed more and more apparent that Taylor not only is OK as a person but will actually play on Monday.

This is better for Taylor the person, of course. Football is a game. If one is good enough, that person can make a decent living playing the game. But only for a relatively short time in their lives and having the rest of their lives affected by an injury is not something anyone should go through.

But for Taylor the player – a guy who truly seems to enjoy playing football – and for the Seahawks overall, Taylor being able to play Monday seems miraculous. Some of this might be based on Taylor’s recent injury history where he had to miss all of 2020 because of a leg injury.

Seahawks might have Darrell Taylor in week 7 versus Saints

But a lot of it might be due to seeing a player being carted off a field with his head immobilized makes us assume that player won’t be playing for a long time, if ever.

To be sure, the Seahawks need Darrell Taylor on the field. Not only is he by far the best pass rusher Seattle has in 2021 but he supplies an energy that one hopes the rest of the players play off of. Taylor led the Seahawks in sacks (4) and quarterback hits (now 6) entering week 6 versus Pittsburgh. And during the Steelers game, Taylor was the only Seattle player to get a quarterback hit.

Yes, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was getting rid of the ball fast but not fast enough so that Taylor couldn’t get a hit on him. At this point, Taylor is the only defensive lineman/linebacker who seems capable of consistent pressure on an opposing quarterback.

Seattle needs Taylor to play to have a better chance of winning. By all indications, Taylor is likely to play in week 7 versus the Saints.
