Who wins when the Seahawks play the Packers and why

12th Man Rising: Who do you see winning the Packers versus Seahawks and why?

Paul Bretl: As long as Aaron Rodgers is under center – which is the expectation, although he still needs to be cleared – I’m going to pick the Packers in this one. They have fared very well against Seattle at Lambeau Field during the Russell Wilson era while the defense has been one of the better units in football this season – especially as of late – and this is a potent offense that is much healthier with Rodgers likely back, along with Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Allen Lazard also in the mix – these four have not all played together since Week 3. Green Bay could get David Bakhtiari back as well.

However, with that said, I certainly do expect this to be a close contest.

On the defensive side of the ball, it is going to be important that the Green Bay defensive front get home and contain Wilson. If he’s able to extend plays or has time in the pocket, it could spell trouble for the Packers’ secondary that is still without Jaire Alexander. Against Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes the past two weeks, the Packers have done a very good job of this.

Meanwhile, on offense, establishing and sticking to the run game will be crucial, just as it is every week. It’s easy to look at this offense and see Rodgers and Adams, but this unit is truly at its best when Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are heavily involved and finding success on the ground. That sets up play-action, and in general, it opens up the entire passing game for Rodgers.
