The Seattle Seahawks will be thin at running back and the offensive line when they play the Washington Football Team in week 12 on Monday Night Football. In fact, Seattle will be without five players total.
Missing with be running backs Rashaad Penny (everything in the human body is hurt, I assume) and Travis Homer (calf) plus offensive linemen Damien Lewis (elbow) and Jamarco Jones (back) and cornerback Tre Brown.
Lewis and Brown are starters. Brown, of course, will be out the rest of the year after suffering a knee injury in week 11 versus the Arizona Cardinals. Brown was beginning to make his mark on the Seahawks in his rookie year and was probably Seattle’s second-best cornerback when he was hurt. Brown has now been placed on Injured Reserve as well.
Lewis is in his second year and has started every game but two. The second will be on Monday. Lewis also missed week 7 against the New Orleans Saints. Lewis was better last year at right guard but flipped to the left side in 2021 to make room for free-agent signee Gabe Jackson.
Seattle Seahawks without many players for week 12 versus Washington
The issue with missing Lewis is that the drop-off at his position is great. His replacements could be Dakoda Shepley or Kyle Fuller who are both more natural centers than guards. Shepley has never played an offensive down in the NFL. Fuller has started 7 games for Seattle in 2021 but all at center and he wasn’t good there.
Jamarco Jones might be more of a natural replacement for Lewis but he is not only out already in week 12 but was placed on IR so he will have to miss at least three games.
Seattle did sign guard Phil Haynes off their practice squad to add offensive line depth. The team also activated cornerback Nigel Warrior off IR.
At running back, the Seahawks will have Alex Collins and DeeJay Dallas and that’s it. That is unless the Seahawks elevate Josh Johnson and/or B.J. Emmons from the practice squad. Basically, if Collins or Dallas get hurt during the game, there is going to be trouble.
Washington has only two players listed as out, center Tyler Larsen and offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. Tight end Ricky Seals-Jones is doubtful. Receivers Adam Humphries and Curtis Samuel are both listed as questionable.
