De’Vondre Campbell, linebacker

What the Seahawks defense needs badly is a linebacker who is really good in coverage. Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks are great tacklers but they either cannot cover or are being coached so badly that they look like they can’t. This is where De’Vondre Campbell comes in.

Per Pro Football Focus, Campbell has a grade of 77.3 in coverage in 2021. He also has the highest overall grade of all linebackers in the NFL this year (81.2). His coverage grade ranks fourth overall. But Campbell doesn’t just cover well, he plays the run equally as well and can pressure the quarterback at times.

The question about Campbell is if he can replicate his production from this season into the future. Campbell hasn’t been nearly as good as he is this season in any previous year. So maybe he is just a perfect fit for the Packers system.

Or maybe he finally figured out what works best for him. Campbell is still just 28 years old and has many years left to play at a high level. Assuming Seattle changes its defensive direction and possibly goes back to a truer 4-3 scheme, Campbell would be a good fit in Seattle too. Campbell could cover tight ends and play the screen pass much like K.J. Wright did in Seattle. Campbell also shouldn’t be overpriced as teams will likely want to see if he can be great for two straight years before offering him a huge deal.
