Extend Quandre Diggs

For weeks now, many members of the Seattle media have been making their claims for the Seahawks to extend free safety Quandre Diggs. Throughout his tenure with the Seahawks, Diggs has been an exceptional player in the backend. Defensive coordinator, Ken Norton Jr., compared his presence on defense to that of Russell Wilsons’ on offense. In Week 15, he once again intercepted Matthew Stafford, increasing his total to 5 on the year and proving to the world why he was the lead vote-getter at his position for the 2021 Pro Bowl.

Quandre Diggs has 100% earned the right to be given the contract he wants. If Seattle is smart, they should. For weeks now, I have been complimenting this Seattle defense throughout the second half of the season, and Diggs is a large reason for that. Even though they suffered a season-ending loss in Week 15, the defense did its job. The timely sacks by Carlos Dunlap, the big 4th down pass breakup by Jordyn Brooks all allowed this Seahawks team to remain in the fight.

Although the Rams finished the game going 6-12 (50%) on third downs, the majority of those came in the first half. With D.J. Reed being ruled out due to COVID, I thought Bless Austin did a really nice job. Odell Beckham Jr. was pretty much irrelevant in this game and that’s in large part due to smart defensive scheming along with physical plays from most notably Austin himself.

With uncertainty looming large over Seattle, the defense has many bright spots. Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner are a top 2, top 3 linebacker duo. Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams have the potential to be a top 2, top 3 safety duo, but that all relies on if Seattle extends Diggs, which THEY SHOULD! Darrell Taylor, Poona Ford, Tre Brown, D.J. Reed, Marquise Blair along with others are young players that are going to continually get better. This defense has the pieces and potential to finish this season strong and add more reinforcements in the offseason to make it even better.

But, let me once again reinforce that Seattle’s first priority should be bringing back free safety, Quandre Diggs.
