The Seattle Seahawks are 5-10 and play the 2-12-1 Detriot Lions in Week 17 of the 2021 NFL season. Detriot is 2-2 in its last four games, however.

Seattle will be facing Jared Goff for the first time with Goff wearing a uniform that didn’t belong to the Los Angeles Rams. While the Rams have been very successful against the Seahawks over recent years, Goff hasn’t always been great himself against Seattle.

Goff is 5-4 when facing Seattle with 8 touchdown passes but 9 interceptions and a quarterback rating of just 81.6. Maybe Seattle can take its familiarity of Goff and turn that into Week 17 success against the Lions.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Detroit Lions Odds and Preview Week 17

The Seattle Seahawks remain a favorite in Week 17 even though have played worse as the year has gone on and the Lions are improving. The WynnBet betting odds currently have the Seahawks as a -7 point favorite. Seattle also has -310 moneyline odds while Detriot is at +250. The over/under for total points is set at 42.5 (-110 for the over, -110 for the under).

Detroit has a betting line of getting 17.5 points and Seattle is at 24.5.

Detriot will be getting quarterback Jared Goff back this week as Goff missed Week 16 after testing positive for COVID-19. The Lions could be without receiver Josh Reynolds, however, as he was placed on the COVID list.

Seattle placed L.J. Collier on the COVID list on Tuesday but activated tight end Will Dissly and starting right tackle Brandon Shell.

Betting the spread: If one were to bet on the Seahawks (-7), in order to win, they’d have to win by 8 or more points.

Betting the moneyline: If one were to bet on the Seahawks (-310), they would have to just flat out win. For every $310 bet, you win $100.

KEY TO THIS GAME: Who wants it more?

One thing that cannot be said about the Seahawks in their bad season this year is that they stopped playing hard. Every week, especially defensively, Seattle’s players play until the whistle blows and tackle tenaciously. Seattle not winning isn’t because the players don’t want to win.

That said, the Lions, after a 0-10-1 start have won two of their last four games. Both of these victories were over teams that have defeated the Seahawks this year: the Minnesota Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals. In Week 15, the Lions dismantled the Cardinals 30-12.

Detriot has a very young roster (second youngest average age in the league to start the season) and a hungry one. The Lions don’t have a roster without talent but one with a few good players still finding their way.

This might simply come down to a young and hungry team (Detriot) versus a veteran Seahawks team with neither going to the playoffs but with Detriot having more to prove.
