In the words of The Who, “…new boss, same as the old boss…” Jordyn Brooks is the new Bobby Wagner. Wagner might not be back next season because of his bloated contract and the fact he makes fewer impact plays now than he did just two seasons ago. Wagner is a Hall of Famer but he might not retire a Seahawk.
Brooks was a first round draft pick in 2020 for a reason. He is fast and can make tackles all over the field. Brooks didn’t play a lot of pass coverage in college, though, and it has shown negatively for a lot of his career so far. But Brooks has gotten better at the one weakness he has.
Otherwise, Jordyn Brooks needs to be with Seattle for the next 8 seasons. Not only has he quickly learned what it is to be an NFL linebacker, but he is also already excelling. Brooks will most likely finish second in the NFL in tackles for this year. He is currently third with 165 but Wagner is above him with 170 and Wagner won’t play in Week 18 due to an injury in Week 17.
Brooks leads the team with 8 tackles for loss and is sixth with 5 passes defended. Seattle is still learning how to use his speed to pressure quarterbacks but 2022 might be the season that’s figured out. Brooks will be the first Seahawk to lead Seattle in tackles (if he gets in on 6 tackles in Week 18) other than Wagner since 2015. Jordyn Brooks should be a Pro Bowler next season.
