2022 Vision

Once the dust settles and Jody Allen makes her final decision on what to do with the front office in Seattle, they can then turn their attention to addressing the needs of this football team. Personally, I believe they are going to run things back. I don’t have a good feel for what they will do with their coordinators. If they let them go, I wouldn’t be surprised. If they retained them, I wouldn’t be surprised either.

If there is ever a positive to having a down year or dealing with injuries to star players, it’s that you get to evaluate the depth of your team. Unfortunately, Seattle has dealt with numerous injuries. In a sense, it makes some of their decisions easier heading into the offseason. For example, RT Brandon Shell was dealing with a nagging shoulder injury. For the last month, he was replaced with rookie T Jake Curhan, who might have earned himself a starting job on this team next year.

Other guys like Sidney Jones, Duane Brown, Gerald Everett, Rashaad Penny, Rasheem Green, D.J. Reed, Quandre Diggs are on their contract years. Seattle has had ample time to evaluate them and make a decision on what to do. It was truly heartbreaking to see Diggs suffer a serious injury that resulted in him being carted off. His tears showed how much he loves this game and his teammates. He really gave it all he had this season and deserves a big contract as his play did the talking for him.

Seattle is going to have to figure out their cap, but I think Reed, Brown, Everett, Jones and Penny definitely secured their jobs for next season. Also, with the draft coming up, Seattle can invest some capital there. I would go offensive line early and focus more on spending money in free agency on the defensive side.

To me, the enigma of the year was rookie wideout Dee Eskridge. I know he suffered a serious concussion in Week 1. But, ever since his return, he wasn’t heavily involved. The Seahawks may look towards adding another wide receiver as well if they feel Eskridge isn’t developing the way they want him to.

dark. Next. 4 free agents Seahawks should chase this offseason

At one point, we might have all called for Pete Carroll’s head during the season. I am certainly taking that back and hope he returns for next year. He, along with Russell Wilson, have shown they are capable of winning the Super Bowl. This team is just truly a few pieces away from getting back there.
