Former Seahawks QB coach Austin Davis resigns at Auburn
By Lee Vowell
Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach Austin Davis left Seattle in December to go be the offensive coordinator at Auburn. He resigned on Monday, however. According to WVTM channel 13 in Alabama, Davis resigned for “personal reasons.”
Prior to going to Auburn in December, David was a coach with the Seahawks in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Davis was an offensive assistant for Seattle and was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2020 and stayed at the position for most of 2021 until taking the offensive coordinator job at Auburn in December.
Davis also was on the Seahawks roster as Russell Wilson’s backup for the 2017 season and played in three games but never threw a pass. Davis did see playing time in 2014 with the then-St. Louis Rams and started 8 games and went 3-5. In 2017, Davis started two games with the Browns and lost both games.

Davis was also part of several other NFL organizations as a player but never saw playing time.
In his reason for resigning from Auburn, Davis stated that the decision was “100 percent based on personal reasons” and that he simply wanted to spend more time with his family. While Auburn fans might not like his being a part of their program for just over a month, his reason for stepping away from football is totally understandable.
Davis is just 32 years old and, if he chooses, will likely be coaching again somewhere else one day and possibly back in the NFL. Oddly enough, college coaches probably spend more time away from their families than do NFL coaches as there is recruiting involved as well.
Davis always appeared to be a good guy to have on any team, however, and wasn’t a bad quarterback coach with the Seahawks, Whatever he does choose to do, we wish him well.
