Five edge rushers Seattle Seahawks should sign this offseason
By Lee Vowell
Chandler Jones
Maybe this one is more of a pipe dream but I think it’s time the Seahawks spent some money. They have the fifth-most cap room in the NFL heading into the offseason. Some of this will be spent on re-signing their own free agents and some might go towards saving to extend players in the future like D.K. Metcalf. But the simple fact is that for the first time in forever, Seattle has a franchise quarterback under contract yet also a lot of money to spend.
Seattle needs to make a splash this offseason. No longer can they stand pat and wait for second-tier free agents to sign. The rest of the NFC West has passed them by. And getting Chandler Jones would do two things.
One is it would hurt the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle needs to jump over the Cardinals to get back to the top of the division so signing Jones would be a win-win.
Two is that Jones is a future Hall of Famer who hasn’t had fewer than 10.5 sacks in a season where he has been healthy since 2014. And Jones has mostly been healthy. In 2020, he played only five games but 2020 was a weird year for lots of players.
In 2021, Jones had 10.5 sacks and 26 quarterback hits. He also had 12 tackles for loss. He also made his fourth Pro Bowl. Chandler is going to cost a lot of money to get but Seattle has a relative lot of money, especially compared to other teams. John Schneider needs to break his normal practice and needs to offer a lot to a player of great value and offer Jones $17 million for 2022.
