Tennessee Titans

Tennessee was the number one seed in the AFC this year but no thanks for that should go to its tight end room.  When healthy, the Titans had Derrick Henry at running back and Julio Jones and A.J. Brown at receiver. The middle of the field would have been wide open for an athletic tight end. Instead, Tennessee’s top two tight ends (Anthony Firkser and Geoff Swaim) caught 65 passes but for only 501 yards or 7.7 yards per catch. That’s awful.

One reason a good Titans offense was limited overall is it got no help from the tight ends. And Tennessee is going to have to rebuild its tight end room in 2022 as their top three tight ends are all free agents. This isn’t a bad thing due to the unit’s lack of production.

Adding Everett to a group that includes Brown and Henry gives quarterback Ryan Tannehill another high-end option. Before 2021, Tennessee had Jonnu Smith who produced Everett-type number in 2020 – 41 catches and 8 touchdowns so the issue in Tennessee isn’t that they don’t know how to use tight ends. They just had tight ends who weren’t that good.

The Titans are going to be good again next year and would be made better by adding a player of Everett’s talent. The Titans still need to clear some cap space to sign a good free agent (they are currently under the projected cap by $7 million) but Everett also isn’t going to break the bank to sign.
