Seahawks: 3 free agent running backs Seattle should sign this offseason
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks need to re-make their running back room some in 2022. Rashaad Penny is a free agent who Seattle would like to re-sign but there is obviously no guarantee that will happen. Chris Carson will be coming off a neck injury and his return might be in question.
Past the top two running backs, there are a lot more question marks. There is no clear third option. DeeJay Dallas looked solid in very limited time this year but he doesn’t look ready to lead a rushing attack if shouldered with doing so.
Travis Homer is much more of a valuable special teams player than a running back. If all other running backs were to get injured (not ever out of the question, unfortunately, with Seattle as recent seasons show) and Homer was tasked with being the lead back, the likelihood is that the Seahawks would throw a lot that game.

Maybe Seattle tries to bring veteran Adrian Peterson back in 2022 but he hasn’t shown in the last couple of seasons that he should be an RB1 anymore. He might be better as a coach now anyway.
The ideal currently might be to bring Penny back and for Carson to return healthy. But Pete Carroll usually likes to go with a two-back system (even going back to his USC days) and assuming running backs will stay healthy over a season is a mistake.
Seattle needs to add talent to its running back room in 2022. That means possibly adding one of the three running backs that follow.
