Trade target number 5: Xavien Howard, CB

If the Seahawks are really serious about getting more aggressive on defense, targeting Howard is one way to show it.

Howard is one of the most feared cornerbacks in the NFL. He has incredibly sticky hands and mirrors coverage with the best of them. He is in the midst of his prime right now and should have another 2 to 3 years left of very solid play.

The biggest reason he could be available is his contract. He is currently the second-highest-paid cornerback on the team. Howard has far outplayed the other individual and wants to be compensated as such.

The Dolphins put a Band-Aid on the issue last year and moved some money around so that Howard received a bonus last season to bump that years’ pay. However, the Dolphins did not touch the contract as a whole. It is completely possible, evenly likely, that the same issue will pop up again this year resulting in a trade request.

The Seahawks would be assuming a 3 year, $39 million contract. The Seahawks could easily tack on a roster bonus to this contract to get Howards contract into a better place in His eyes. This would give the Seahawks a true shut-down corner for the next 2 to 3 seasons.

Trade offer: 2022 3rd round pick, 2023 3rd round pick.
