Improving the defensive line appears to be at the top of the agenda for the Seattle Seahawks. The recent promotion of Clint Hurtt to defensive coordinator only enhances that idea. Hurtt, who served as the defensive line coach is now tasked with fixing the pass rush and the backend. The Seahawks have been doing their due diligence in putting the right defensive staff around Hurtt.

First, it was Ed Donatell. But, it seems that Donatell is going to be taking the defensive coordinator position with the Minnesota Vikings. Karl Scott is now in talks to become the secondary coach. Former Bears defensive coordinator, Sean Desai, was hired on Friday as an associate head coach. Pete Carroll is doing his best to put together the best team possible in an attempt to turn this defense around.

For years, many around the league have shared sentiments that Carroll’s scheme is outdated. The once-dominant Seahawks defense that reigned terror on all quarterbacks has now become mediocre. The good news is that it can be turned around. Impending free agents may change the outlook of this defense, but assuming the Seahawks resign Quandre Diggs and D.J. Reed, they have the foundation.

Seahawks should trade for these three defensive linemen

Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs in the backend should be recognized as one of the better safety tandems in the NFL. CB D.J. Reed is coming off his best year and is looking to lockdown the starting corner back position. In the second level, Bobby Wagner hasn’t shown a sign of regression after finishing his 10th season — although, he has been involved in many trade rumors. His running mate Jordyn Brooks, who is entering his third year, is coming off a career year. Up front, Darrell Taylor turned heads with an impressive season debut in 2021.

But, outside of him, Seattle has a bunch of rotational pieces. Towards the end of the year, it was Carlos Dunlap and Rasheem Green who picked up the heat and applied constant pressure. Success on defense starts up front. A lack of pass rush makes everyone else’s job harder. I am putting on my GM hat and proposing three potential trades that can help improve this defensive line.
