According to one Pro Football Focus mock draft, the Seattle Seahawks will pick up multiple first-round picks after trading Russell Wilson.

There are, of course, tons of mock 2022 NFL drafts happening right now. After the Super Bowl is over, fans of teams can focus on how their own teams can be better in 2022. This means signing good free agents and making good draft picks. But would the Seattle Seahawks trade Russell Wilson to make for a possibly better future for the team?

Maybe. In one Pro Football Focus mock draft, Seattle is going to trade Wilson to the Philadelphia Eagles in return for two first-round choices. This would be a win for the Eagles who are clearly well-coached (nobody expected the Eagles to do anything in 2021 with a rookie head coach and a franchise trying to rebuild yet Philadelphia made the playoffs). The Eagles have a young and talented roster and Wilson would make them better.

But the Seahawks have a championship window that might be slowly closing with an aging Russell Wilson. Seattle does have some young talent, however, especially defensively with Darrell Taylor, Jordyn Brooks and Tre Brown. A trade of Wilson means rebuilding the offense.

One mock draft has Seahawks dealing Russell Wilson

Per PFF, Seattle would choose Ole Miss’s Matt Corral to replace Wilson. This would likely mean a diminished win-loss record for the Seahawks in 2022 but with all the young defensive talent under contract in 2023 and a rookie quarterback that would allow Seattle to re-sign D.K. Metcalf and a great amount, Seattle’s future could be even brighter than if the team kept Wilson.

PFF has the Seahawks taking Corral at number 15 and then left tackle Bernhard Raimann of Central Michigan at number 19. Raimann would replace Duane Brown. In a perfect world, this could be a good thing for Seattle. But football is not a perfect world and losing Wilson likely would not be a good thing.

While 12s want the Seahawks to win every game ever but making needed changes is a must to make the future better, trading Russell Wilson this offseason simply doesn’t seem smart. Corral is athletic and has a great arm but taking a chance he has Wilson’s leadership qualities is simply too big of a chance to take.
