4 potential cap casualties Seahawks should sign in free agency

Frank Clark, edge rusher
Heck, maybe the Seahawks should sign Za’Darius Smith and also bring Frank Clark back? Clark didn’t leave Seattle originally under bad terms. The Seahawks gave him a franchise tag with the idea of trading him. Clark made a lot of money and went to the eventual Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs.
But Clark hasn’t been that great in KC and while the Chiefs would still have $13.6 million left in dead cap if they released Clark, they would also save $12.7 million. Twice with the Seahawks, Clark had seasons of double-digit sacks (2016 and 2018) but his high with the Chiefs is 8 and that was in his first year with KC (2019). Clark had just 4.5 sacks in 2021.
The ironic part is that Clark has made the Pro Bowl all three seasons with the Chiefs and never did with Seattle even though his statistics were much better as a Seahawk. Still, while only having 4.5 sacks this past year, Clark had 17 quarterback hits (which would have led Seattle).
Clark will be 29 years old when the 2022 season begins and still has near the same quickness and athletics that he had at the beginning of his career. This means he should still be very productive for several more years. Under new defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt the Seahawks should use their edge rushers better than they did under former DC Ken Norton, Jr. Clark would be a perfect fit to return to Seattle.
