Marcus Williams

If Seattle does let Quandre Diggs walk (and it doesn’t appear that the Seahawks want to and will try to work out a deal with Diggs), Marcus Williams would be an excellent replacement. Williams has been a starter since he stepped onto the field for the Saints in 2017 and he has been extremely consistent.

Williams has had multiple interceptions in each of his five seasons and every year but in his second season (2018) Williams has had 7 or more passes defended. Williams is also a very good tackler. Every season but in 2019, Williams has whiffed on 8.6 percent or fewer of his tackle attempts. This is a solid number for a defensive back.

Williams also is reliable to show up almost every game day. In his five years, Williams has missed just five games and never more than two in any year. Plus, even though he has played five seasons, Williams is still just 25 years old and will have lots of years left to play at a high level.

The Saints could franchise tag Williams (this would cost New Orleans a bit over $13 million) but with the salary cap mess, the Saints are in they might not be able to do that. It might take $13 million or more to sign Williams anyway but if Diggs does leave, paying Williams (who can play either safety spot) would be worth it.
