Several reports have immersed that Russell Wilson was desperately wanted in a trade by the Washington Commanders. The Seattle Seahawks said no.

Russell Wilson isn’t going to the Washington Commanders. In fact, the rumors that the Commanders wanted to trade for Wilson and what they were willing to give up make me very happy to be a Seahawks fan and not one of the Commanders.

(Of course, there are several reasons not to be a fan of the Washington team from their team ownership down to the team being bad on the field for a very long time.)

Washington reportedly offered “multiple first-round picks” to Seattle in return for Wilson. That is quite a bit to offer for a team to say no. But Seahawks general manager John Schneider turned the offer down which could mean at least a couple of things.

One is that Seattle truly isn’t interested in moving Wilson. This not only means the Seahawks are still trying to win now, as the phrase goes, but that the relationship between Russell Wilson and the Seahawks must be strong enough where Schneider isn’t willing to bite on an offer like what Washington made.

Russell Wilson definitely not going to the Washington Commanders

Two is that Russell Wilson likely heard of the offer yet still went on NBC’s Today show this week and said, “I love the East Coast, but I think the West Coast is better for me right now.” Maybe don’t read too much into the “right now” part. I don’t know Wilson but my guess is that he wasn’t saying anything that could be construed as a loaded statement.

Pete Carroll at the NFL combine this week said Seattle has “no intention of making any moves there (when it comes to Russell Wilson), but the conversations, John (Schneider) has to field those, he always has…”

So, no. Wilson isn’t going to be traded it appears and certainly not to the Washington Commanders. The fact that Washington has been mediocre to bad for the last few decades is because it is a poorly run franchise. That the dirty laundry gets aired is bad enough but that it is leaked that they are desperate to trade for a quarterback has to be embarrassing.

The Seahawks are a well-run franchise and will continue to win games. They will win those future games with Russell Wilson at quarterback.
