4 high-risk free agents the Seahawks should consider in 2022 offseason
By Lee Vowell
Joe Haden
The Seahawks might have to revamp its cornerback group quite a bit this offseason. D.J. Reed and Sidney Jones – two players who combined to start 25 games (out of a possible 34) in 2021 and were both pretty good but are free agents. Reed has been Seattle’s best corner over the last two seasons. Jones played better as the season wore on this past year and finished as the 26th-highest-graded corner in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus. Reed was 8th overall.
The Seahawks do have Tre Brown who as a rookie in 2021 showed promise. But there is no guarantee Brown is going to be a very good CB in the NFL. Plus, Brown will be trying to come back from a knee injury.
This leaves cornerback as a huge question mark entering 2022. Do Reed and Jones return? If so, can Jones be good again? What if neither returns? Seattle would need veteran help and this is where Joe Haden could be a player to target in free agency.
Haden will be 33 years old (ancient for a cornerback) in the 2022 season and is no longer the cornerback he was early in his career. But he still has the speed to cover top receivers. Just two years ago, Haden allowed a QBR-against of just 75.9. While 2021 was a bit of a down year for him, this could mean that Seattle has a chance to sign him to a team-friendly deal.
