When one turns on the TV on football Sundays to cheer on the Seattle Seahawks, one can’t help but get attached to the players wearing blue and green. Through the last three years, we watched as Quandre Diggs intercepted his way into our hearts.

When the trade was first announced, I remember every 12 I have the pleasure of knowing was very excited and extremely optimistic for his future in Seattle uniform. It didn’t take him to produce. In Week 10 of 2019 versus Seattle’s arch-rival the 49ers in San Francisco, Diggs came up with an interception of Jimmy Garoppolo in the 3rd quarter of a close game that we won in overtime.

Diggs will be 29 years old at the start of next season. He’s looking for a huge payday somewhere in the neighborhood of $12 million, per Pro Football Focus. But even as well as Diggs has done, I would like to see the Seahawks go after safety Marcus Williams of the New Orleans Saints.

The Seahawks should go after Marcus Williams in free agency

The Saints are currently in cap heck. They won’t be able to re-sign many of their free agents, most likely. And Marcus Williams is only 25 years old and currently has 15 interceptions across five seasons. He’s good, very good.

He’s a true deep safety and plays with range. He’s a sideline to sideline player who’s only missed three games his whole career. Yes, in case you were wondering, he is the free safety that missed the tackle that would have taken the Saints to the Championship Game in 2017 but in Williams’ defense, he was a rookie at the time and clearly made a boneheaded mistake.

After bringing in Sean Desai who has ties to defensive guru Vic Fangio, as well as secondary coach Karl Scott, 12s are sure to see a philosophy change on defense a bit. Fangio’s defensive principles rely heavily on functional athletic safeties.

Next. 3 Vikings that could follow Karl Scott to the Seahawks. dark

We’ve heard Pete Carroll say multiple times that he kicks the tires on every possible scenario and he and John Schneider are in on every deal. I’d like to think the signing of Marcus Williams should be rather high on the Seahawks priority list.
