Seattle Seahawks: 3 possible replacements for Russell Wilson
By Jake Luppino
Mitch Trubisky
The former number 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Mitch Trubisky, will be hitting the free agent market after serving as a backup for the Bills. Trubisky is looking to revive this NFL career and has been featured in many headlines this offseason. In his short stint with the Bears, amidst the trying times, he did make the playoffs two times.
In fact, many feel he is ready for another shot at being a starting quarterback in the NFL after learning from Josh Allen and Brian Daboll in Buffalo. He has been linked to the Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers and now, I am throwing his name in the hat for the Seattle Seahawks. Trubisky presents an enticing challenge for the Seahawks. If they were to sign him, many 12s would probably be abruptly upset. But, they would be able to get him at an affordable price.
Quite frankly, one could argue the Seahawks have nothing to lose by giving him a chance. With no Russell Wilson, I don’t think many have any expectations for this team. Signing Trubisky allows Seattle to give him a chance while also serving as a bridge quarterback. Many feel the 2023 NFL quarterback class is way better than the one we will see enter the league next month.
Trubisky has been at the forefront of many criticisms, but I actually like the fit in Seattle. His athleticism fits nicely with the goals of this offense and he hasn’t been as turnover prone as say, Jameis Winston. Although he may have already reached his ceiling in the NFL, that ceiling still contains multiple playoff appearances and with the current state of this franchise, it might not be the worse thing to take a flyer on a guy like Mitch. He is certainly a better option than Drew Lock.
