The Seattle Seahawks should be all in on Deshaun Watson

After the news broke that Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson would not be facing any legal action on the 22 sexual assault allegations, the trade rumors surrounding him started again in full force.  Inevitably, the Seattle Seahawks are linked to many of these rumors after their trade of Russell Wilson to the Broncos.

But, I’ve seen a lot 12s not on board with the idea of Deshaun Watson being a Seahawk.  While this is somewhat understandable given all of the questions about him off the field, from purely a football standpoint, it is not understandable at all.

Given the Seahawks current situation, a trade for Watson would be an absolute home-run or blessing or gift; You name it.

Seahawks should trade for Deshaun Watson

This is a trade that I think would help both teams.  Seahawks would get Deshaun Watson, and Texans would get a second option at quarterback in case David Mills performs poorly, as well as a talented running back (when he is healthy of course).

For me personally, though, I would not mind giving up even more to get Watson.  Watson is an A-tier quarterback talent that could possibly even take Seattle to higher heights than Russel Wilson could.  I think Watson’s one-year absence has made people forget just how good Watson is.  While he is definitely not as gifted of a thrower as Wilson, he is more athletic and escapable.

Not to mention, Watson is only 26 years old.  He has so much career left, and he hasn’t even hit his prime yet.  If the Seattle Seahawks are able to go out and get Watson, as well as secure him with a contract, Seattle could potentially go from trading away the best quarterback in the NFC West, to trading for and having the best quarterback in the NFC West for the next 5-plus years.

I have seen a lot of talk about Seattle drafting QB Malik Willis with the 9th pick in the 2022 draft, but frankly, we would be drafting him with the hope that he could turn out even 75 percent as good as Deshaun Watson is right now.

So, in my opinion, Seattle should be aggressively pursuing Watson.  We have a great receiver room which is no doubt appealing to Deshaun.  Our O-line needs work, but we have the cap space to go out and improve it in this free agency, which could also be a pitch to bring Deshaun to Seattle.

Every 12 should be on board with this.  Watson is an incredible talent, and there’s no doubt in my mind that if we invest in improving the O-line, Seattle will be contending for Super Bowls with Watson slinging the rock.
