While several impact free agents have already been signed elsewhere, there are a bunch of players who could be great for the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. I do realize that Monday and Tuesday were “unofficial” free agency days as the new league year starts Wednesday but the deals are done.

I am not going to include Chandler Jones or Von Miller on this list. Sorry. For Seattle to go from not re-signing D.J. Reed and releasing Bobby Wagner to spending tons on Jones or Miller doesn’t make sense.

That said, it is still difficult to get a true read on what John Schneider and Pete Carroll want to do this offseason. Is this a complete rebuild or a one-year re-tooling? If the approach is the latter, then Seattle should still bring in some good talent like the following guys.

5 players the Seahawks can still sign on Day 3 of free agency

Stephon Gilmore

Gilmore is still good. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021 but he is also 32 years old and that in cornerback years is like 85 in real life. But signing Gilmore to a one-year deal to replace D.J. Reed? More than worth the money even if that means $12 million for next season (still less than what Reed is going to make with the Jets overall).

Jadeveon Clowney

It’s anyone’s guess as to where Clwoeny ends up as he has played a series of one-year deals since he was traded to the Seahawks in 2019. According to one site, Clowney is now favored to end up with the Patriots. But Clowney had a very good season in Cleveland in 2021 and bringing him back to Seattle and letting him play across from Carlos Dunlap and Darrell Taylor would make perfect sense.

Marcus Mariota

Seattle needs a quarterback for at least 2022. Drew Lock is not the answer. The Seahawks had little faith in Geno Smith in three games so it doesn’t seem like Smith would be expected to be the starter for an entire season either. Mariota hasn’t proven to be a long-term starter in the NFL but he has started 61 games in his career and is still just 28 years old. He’s good enough for a one-year bridge at least.

Terron Armstead

This is where Seattle needs to start spending some money. But if Seattle is rebuilding they won’t want to take long to get back to being good as Pete Carroll will be 71 years old in 2022 season. A long-term rebuild means Seattle won’t be good until Carroll is gone. One way to help Seattle get better more quickly is to build a good offensive line to help protect whoever plays quarterback.

Signing Armstead would give Seattle a good left tackle for many years. He won’t be cheap but he shouldn’t; Good left tackles need to get paid well. Armstead will be just 31 years old in Week 1 of 2022.

Next. 3 potential landing spots for Bobby Wagner. dark

J.C. Tretter

Cleveland released Tretter on Tuesday to make room for some other player, most likely. But Tretter is one of the best centers in the NFL and is just 31 years old and has many seasons left to play. Tretter made a bit over $9 million in 2021 and won’t be inexpensive to sign. But Seattle has the money to spend and, like with Armstead, if they want a quicker rebuild, improving the offensive line is of great importance.
