The 2022 NFL draft isn’t loaded with sure-thing high-end QBs so the Seahawks might need to wait a couple of years to find their quarterback of the future. But the 2022 version of the team should still have enough talent, especially defensively, to win a bunch of games. Finding a good quarterback for 2022 and maybe 2023 is needed.

All the quarterbacks that follow come with question marks but all are capable of leading the Seattle offense well enough where the team could win at least half its games next year. One is a free agent (Winston below might end up with the Colts but nothing is done yet) and two would need to be traded for.

But the three quarterbacks that follow could also lead Seattle for three years or more allowing the Seahawks focus in this year’s draft to definitely go towards building the overall unit, such as getting a very good cornerback or edge rusher or offensive lineman.

Here are three good options for Seattle for right now and a few years beyond.

Three potentially good options for the Seahawks at QB starting in 2022

Jameis Winston

I am not a huge fan of Winston, to be honest. He turns the ball over way too much. His career interception rate is 3.3 percent which is pretty bad for someone who wants to be a quality NFL starter. Russell Wilson’s, for instance, is 1.8. Aaron Rodgers’ is 1.3. Matt Ryan’s is 2.1. But Winston is also just 28 years old and under the right coaching does seem to limit his, um…limitations.

Winston started 7 games for the Saints in 2021 and New Orleans went 5-2 in those games. Winston threw 14 touchdown passes versus 3 interceptions. He also threw just 161 passes in those games which is a relatively low 23 per game. Wilson for Seattle last year threw an average of 28.5 per game.

Seattle is a better running team than they are a passing one currently. Guards Damien Lewis and Gabe Jackson are better at run blocking. The reason the Seahawks finished 4-2 in 2021 is because of Rashaad Penny and not Wilson. So, bringing Winston in and letting him play as he did in New Orleans would be OK.
