At the NFL combine, Seahawks general manager John Schneider made it sound like he wanted to re-sign a lot of Seattle’s free agents. That should still happen.

Seattle has already lost D.J. Reed to the Jets and he was the team’s best corner the last couple of seasons. Reed said he felt “disrespected” by Seattle’s offer in free agency and Reed ended up with a three-year deal worth up to $33 million with New York. Maybe Reed’s conversations with Seattle are what Seattle is doing overall. That is, not overpaying for anyone.

But there are still several key free agents that were Seahawks in 2021 and should be retained by the team to help 2022 be better than expected. Here are three worth paying again.

Three Seahawks that are still free agents that need to be re-signed

Duane Brown

I am still surprised that Brown hasn’t been signed by someone. Maybe he is either looking for the right amount of money from the Seahawks and if he doesn’t get it, he would just retire. Brown can afford to walk away from football and make an impact fully off the field. He seems like a good guy who will keep doing good things off the field.

Brown will be 37 years old when the 2022 season begins. That isn’t ancient but he wasn’t that good in the first half of 2021 and Seattle can’t afford for him to not be very good again at the start of 2022. The Seahawks don’t have Russell Wilson anymore to try to bail Seattle out.

Seattle, of course, doesn’t currently have a proven left tackle on the team. No matter who is under center for Seattle next year needs to have good blocking. Brown is still a good blocker and Seattle needs to re-sign him to a one-year deal worth about $10 million.
