As I have outlined previously, rumblings are brewing over the wide receiver market. The Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf is up for an extension.

Thanks to the recent market explosion, his extension is going to pay him handsomely. The question is, who is going to be the team to pay him?

The last time a market explosion happened around a player the Seahawks were positioning to extend, they traded away star pass-rusher Frank Clark. The thing is, the market is not going to slow down. There are five-to-six guys I can throw out right now that are still in the queue to be extended.

What if the price is simply too high? What if the team doesn’t want to pay two wide receivers with Lockett already locked in long-term?

Seahawks finally take a stance on DK Metcalf trade speculation.

The Jets reportedly offered a package around pick number 10 for DK Metcalf. However, the Seahawks turned it down. They didn’t just turn it down, they didn’t submit any type of counter. They flat out said, no.

When teams call, Howard Eskin reports that the Seahawks are simply saying “we are not trading him and we are not taking offers for him.”

This could mean one of two things:

  • The Seahawks see Metcalf as a cornerstone who has so much untapped upside that the Seahawks can’t afford to let him go. A new face of the franchise, if you will.
  • The Seahawks are positioning themselves for a team to throw out such a stupid offer for Metcalf that they can’t turn it down. Playing hardball with the NFL to see if a monster offer is out there.

No one really knows what will happen. The Seahawks could extend him, as I wrote about here. The team is playing a dangerous game for too long could cause more harm than good, as I outlined here. However, this is the first time a hard stance has been reported.

Next. Why a DK Metcalf trade doesn't make sense. dark

This is certainly a promising development. Personally, Metcalf is the first and only jersey I have ever owned. If he gets traded a mere 4 months after getting it as a Christmas present, you can bet every dollar you will ever own that I will not be getting a jersey of my favorite player again.
