Expecting the Seattle Seahawks to stick at pick number 9 and not trade down would go against recent history. But which teams could Seattle trade with?

First of all, I should say I am shocked by any mock drafts where the Seahawks are expected to trade up into the top five. When has John Schneider done this? And what makes anybody doing a mock draft think Seattle would trade up?

I doubt that Schneider sees a player in the top 15 that is a must-have because Seattle has been built on depth and quantity of picks since 2010. That’s why it would be more surprising for Seattle to stay at pick number 9 than it would be for them to trade down and get more picks.

Here are three teams that the Seahawks could trade with and what they might get in return.

3 potential trade scenarios for the Seahawks in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft

Minnesota Vikings

It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do in this year’s draft because they have a new general manager for the first time since 2006. It would seem like Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would want to make a statement in this draft and be aggressive. Minnesota needs a quarterback, most likely, as it wouldn’t seem like Kirk Cousins will be in Minnesota past 2022.

Quarterbacks go off the board higher than they should sometimes because they are the most important position on the field. Cousins is a slightly better than mediocre quarterback and will be a free agent in 2023. He won’t be back in Minnesota.

But if the Vikings really want Malik Willis of Kenny Pickett and they are still on the board at number 9, Minnesota might ask the Seahawks for a trade to secure their guy. That way, they have a year to play behind Cousins before stepping into the starting role themselves.
